Chicago Japan Club is a student group of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (Chicago Booth). Chicago Japan Club works to promote understanding about Japanese business and Japanese culture at Chicago Booth. Chicago Japan Club is soliciting donations for people in Japan who are suffering from the earthquake that struck northern Japan on Friday, 11 March 2011.
The 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Sendai, Japan (approximately 200 miles from Tokyo), causing massive damage and potentially 1o,000 casualties or more. This earthquake created tsunami waves of up to 10 meters (33 ft), and swept across some parts of Japan, taking out towns, buildings, and pretty much everything in its path. Fires burned out of control. Power to a cooling system at a nuclear power plant was knocked out, forcing thousands to flee. A boat was caught in the vortex of a whirlpool at sea.
Survivors and victims require a huge amount of support to provide relief and long term recovery efforts. If you want to help them, please donate to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami now.
Chicago Japan Club will plan to donate all of contributions to Japanese Red Cross.
